Cool Summer

Growing up in Texas you learn how to stay cool at a very young age. The hydrodynamic effects of water on skin are not lost on the young. Hours are spent splashing in any body of water more than two inches deep. In the shallow ones you just learn to lay really flat.
I still have that urge to jump in anything that contains H2O regardless of how low it is. The homeowners along the shores of Possum Kingdom Lake are grumbling about the low water levels. Yeah it is making the water smell a little funky as well. It is still cooler than the air in the heat of the day and you just have to realign your jumps so that you miss any exposed rocks in the shallows.
Makes me feel like a kid all over again. I think there would be fewer skirmishes if we all spent a bit more summer time in the drink.

Waves of Summer

It has been way too long since I have been surfing. The strain in the arms as you give that final pull. You feel a push under you that seems so primordial and suddenly you are up and racing down the line trying to get to the lip before it completely dumps and cuts you off, but not too fast. You want to get a little cover up, that view from down the rabbit hole with the whole world exposed.
Every where I look I see those waves. Bends in the concrete of a storm culvert, a roll in a piece of paper. We duplicate them everywhere. Yesterday I saw the foot high stern wake of a passing boat create these perfect rollers along the beach at Lake Grapevine. Perfect curves, long lines, and all less than a foot high but plenty big for mind surfing. If only I was the size of chihuahua I could have a blast.

Board Shorts

Ahhh! Temperatures are in the 80's, the wind is blowing a little. Perfect to get to the lake and do some kiteboarding. Guy, Justin, Mike and Jordan met at Benbrook Lake near Fort Worth, Texas for a session of big jumps, spins, flips and rolls.
Have to take advantage of the conditions before the summer doldrums show up and put an end to all the fun.
